Saying Thank You

22 Nov

Life has a way of driving us through our days with very little time for reflection. We get up each morning and run from one activity to another. Then we fall into bed at night exhausted, only to awake the next morning and do it all again.

As we rush through life, the many blessings and comforts we enjoy are often taken for granted. A few weeks ago, I was awakened by a violent wind and rain storm. As I lay in my bed, warm and protected, I prayerfully remembered the countless others in our world that had no such comforts, those who were homeless and physically exposed to those elements as well as others who had gone to sleep hungry or feeling forgotten that night.

My husband and I taught our children to say thank you for the blessings they received from us. When they did, we reminded them that thankful people are given even more to be thankful for. So it is with our Heavenly Father. As our thankfulness blesses Him, He continues to abundantly bless us!

As Thanksgiving Day draws near, let’s slow down and remember the One who made our lives on earth possible and secured our future in heaven. We all have desires that have not yet been fulfilled in this life, but if we stop to reflect, we will see that we have so much for which to be thankful! Let’s make this Thanksgiving Day celebration more than a huge turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Let’s celebrate our Creator and Lord with a heart of thanksgiving for who He is and for all He has done and will continue to do for us.

When you meet together, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, as you praise the Lord with all your heart. Always use the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to thank God the Father for everything. Ephesians 5:19-20 (CEV)

Happy Thanksgiving!
