Holidays = Happy?

28 Nov

Thanksgiving is over, and now the holiday season is full on! For some of us, that’s exciting as we look forward to lots of special traditions and memories to be made in the weeks to come.

For others of us, this time of year brings anxiety or sadness that feels overwhelming. (I remember facing New Year’s Eve one year, sighing, “Another New Year’s party without someone special in my life…seriously, Lord?”)

No matter what feelings you have about the holidays, I invite you to try something. I once heard a pastor say that whatever we consistently declare God to be in prayer and worship, that’s who He becomes to us in our lives. In other words, as we worship God for who He really is according to the Bible (our Savior, our Help in time of trouble, our Protector, our Healer, our Comforter, Mercy, Truth, the One who knows the end from the beginning, who is in control & has a beautiful plan for our lives), He will prove Himself faithful in all the areas where we trust Him.

So, as the hustle and bustle of the season kicks into high gear, let’s make our quiet time with the Lord a priority, something we refuse to skip. Take a few minutes each day on your knees simply telling the Lord who He is to you. (Need some ideas? Read through the Psalms.) As you focus on this amazing God we serve, drawing on the power of His presence, you’ll have faith to stand to your feet and ask Him for joy, peace, strength, and whatever else you need (not just to get through the holiday season, but even enjoy it. : )

If you’re wondering what this looks like, the following song by Rita Springer is a great example. Hope it encourages you!

As I do this myself in the days and weeks to come, I’ll also be praying for you, that this holiday season will be better than you ever thought possible. Because He’s that good. And because you are loved—and you are not alone!
