Precious Harvest

6 Dec

When our daughter, Lisa, was just a young teenager, I saw by the books she was reading, the movies she was watching, and the things she would talk about, that romantic interests were beginning in her heart. Knowing it would be many years before she would be mature enough to meet and marry her Mr. Right, I began searching for a Bible-based teaching that would encourage her not to date around, but wait for the right man to marry in God’s plan for her life.

I found a cassette series (in the days before CDs : ) by a Christian couple Lisa admired. I gave it to her, and as she listened to it over and over, God planted a seed (desire) in Lisa’s heart to wait for the man He had chosen for her. In her journal, she made a covenant with the Lord to do just that—to not run ahead of Him and settle for anyone else, a promise God helped her to keep through the many years of waiting she had ahead of her. If you haven’t already, you can read Lisa’s story, previously posted on this blog.

Lisa and Eric have now been happily married for fourteen years, with four adorable children. I have often wondered how Lisa’s story might have differed if she had refused to listen to that cassette series as a teen. God used it to give her a Scriptural perspective on relationships, dating, and marriage. It gave her Biblical wisdom and tools she needed to follow God’s plan for her life and see her dream realized. Our prayer is that the Mr. Right Series will help you navigate your teen and single years.

Jesus also said, “The Kingdom of God is like a farmer who scatters seed on the ground. Night and day, while he’s asleep or awake, the seed sprouts and grows, but he does not understand how it happens. The earth produces the crops on its own. First a leaf blade pushes through, then the heads of wheat are formed, and finally the grain ripens. And as soon as the grain is ready, the farmer comes and harvests it with a sickle, for the harvest time has come.” Mark 4:26-29 (NLT)

So girls, seek out good resources with godly wisdom regarding your God-dreams (whatever they may be). Plant good seeds now, and as you walk out God’s plan for your life, you will reap an incredibly precious harvest later.

Believing with you,

Barbara
